It was lovely to see so many of you laughing, joking and having fun over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend. Thanks again to all those who helped organise and make it such a success.

I thought I would contact everyone in my new role as the Chairperson of Stubton Village Hall Hub.

First a little bit about myself. I have recently moved into the village from Leyburn in North Yorkshire. I have known Stubton for quite a few years having regularly visited Peter and Karen Stokes when they lived at The Garth and spent many enjoyable evenings in the village hall at a variety of events. I have loved moving in here and been so warmly welcomed by friends both old and new. It certainly feels like it was the right move for me. Now retired, my working life was primarily spent in teaching and developing services for children aged 0-5 years. This involved a good deal of partnership working with other sectors both public and private alongside community development.

The new committee had their first meeting on Tuesday evening. As well as sorting out procedural issues, we also began organising events in response to the questionnaire returned during the street party.

More information will be sent out soon, but in brief,

  • The bar will be open every Friday with the last Friday in every month being a Take-away evening beginning in June
  • The book and film clubs will resume in September
  • Keep fit/yoga continues
  • The village barbeque will take place early August
  • The potato competition final will take place soon organised by the Snooks
  • A wine tasting evening is to be arranged for the autumn  , depending on availability, kindly organised by the Wilsons
  • Quiz and vinyl nights will also be arranged for the autumn.

We will be getting more details and definite dates etc out to you as soon as we can. If you have offered to help out at any of these events, we will be putting a call out in good time. This is where we are now. More will be organised at our next meeting and we will keep you fully informed of developments.

For those unable to attend the Jubilee Party please find the questionnaire attached. If you could complete and put in the village hall postbox as soon as possible , it will help us greatly in knowing the sort of events/activities you would like to see happening.

It will also help the committee immensely if you have any questions or queries you send them to us via the postbox or the email address stubtonvh@gmail.com  and we can then respond after the following meeting. This will hopefully mean that any misconceptions are quickly dealt with. We will be publishing a summary of decisions as soon as possible after each meeting, at the hall, in the bus stop and on the web. Please use the same email address or the postbox if you wish to book the hall for a function/activity.

If you are already a member that’s great. If not and you want to join please let us know by the email or postbox as above and we’ll get a membership form to you. Or do pop in any Friday evening where one of us is usually around to speak with.

I recognise that not everyone in the village is able to access email or is on the village email list, so if you could, would you be so good as to pass on this letter, information and questionnaire to your neighbours?

With the best of wishes

Geoff Dorrity Chairperson
